It uses Mini parts (engine, trans, front end), but is a handbuilt 3-wheeler almost completely made of fiberglass. It's very unnerving to ride in; the seats are very close to the ground, there is almost no protection for passengers, and it doesn't make things better that there's only one rear wheel. That aside, it is a very unique and enjoyable vehicle.

Cool car. Should I say car or tricycle? LOL, but the design is somehow unique. Maybe the one who created this was one small guy :)

The tricar ws built by my uncle (Henry (Bill) Powell) and his colleague (Ken Heather) at Auto Body Craft at Unit 17 Pensnett Trading Estate in the West Midlands between about 1968 and 1973. The original was built, from a written off mini, for my cousin Trevor. At that time you could drive a three wheeler with 1 seat at 16 years old on a bike license whereas a 4 wheel car you had to be 17. The only choice was a Reliant Robin or build your own. No choice really. ABC had been in business for years and was a very proficient repair facility. The two men who ran it (Bill Powell and Ken Heather) had served long apprenticeships in the trade. So, the idea to build Trev a three wheeler with a difference was spawned. The original (TFD 47 G) was british racing green and had a much more pleasing rounded rear end fashioned from a Morris 1000 bonnet as I recall. It was a fabulous little machine and served well and was sold a coup[le of years later. The idea went into production alongside ABC's regular bodyshop work and about 20 - 25 were built using fibreglass body parts. At the same time I recall Ken building a range rover looking vehicle on a Bulldog Champ chassis, engine and running gear topped with a Hillman Husky body - before the Range Rover was thought about! The Tricar went out of prduction in about '73-4. and ABC carried on repairing broken vehicles. Later the partners changed the business slightly to a vintage/ veteran restoration shop. I remember Ken working on Alvis cars particularly.

The above information is totally accurate.
The first car was mine, I also had a 'production' model BFD 88J from 1972 to 1973 it had a 1300 GT engine and ran twin 1 3/4 " SU's with a Cooper S Cam. Cosmic 5J alloy wheels, dunlop SP tyres, and spax adjustable shocks.
Top speed in excess of 130mph easily outran an E type Jag and a BMW 2002 Turbo. Handled like a dream and went all the way to London from home in Kingswinford and back on less than 5 gallons of fuel, which was a full tank.
It had one fault high speed reversing was a little problematic if you suddenly turned a corner...it lifted a front wheel..... like Reliant going forwards.... lol

I can confirm that TFD 47G is still alive in my garage in Buckinghamshire my father purchased the car in 1974 some years ago it got stripped out and a new rear subframe and floorpans fitted but as yet has not been put back together i think this year it may just get sorted out and who knows you may just see it back on the road
